Asian stocks were mixed on Monday following the worst week for global equities since mid-December. Chinese shares outperformed, paring some of Friday’s losses with stocks in Japan, Hong Kong and European futures also higher.

US stocks finished lower on Friday, after a disappointing jobs report and a slump in Chinese exports added to concerns about slowing global growth.

UK stocks had posted their biggest weekly decrease since December, where the market had been experiencing a downswing amid an eviscerating US-China trade war and global growth worry.

Headlines

  • Tesla Inc. said it plans to raise average vehicle prices by about 3 percent globally after it decided to shut down fewer stores than it previously announced. The move comes days after Tesla said it would be winding down most of its physical stores and move to an online-only platform.

  • China’s top trade and monetary policy officials this weekend delivered a subtle push-back against trade demands made by Washington, delivering Beijing’s own interpretation of progress made in talks over the enforcement of any deal. People’s Bank of China Governor Yi Gang said the two sides have reached consensus on many crucial issues, and have discussed previous commitments made by Group of 20 nations on avoiding competitive devaluation of currencies.
